Three of family murdered, two injured by 40-year-old

In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old man bludgeoned to death his father-in-law and two brother-in-laws with a heavy wooden plank, as well as injured two other family members while they all were fast asleep on the terrace of their residence in North-east Delhi’s Nand Nagri area in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a relative shared that before smashing the victims with a wooden plank, Rajesh, the accused, had made them sniff something due to which they became unconscious and did not wake up when they were attacked. Moreover, an investigating official shared that Rajesh was allegedly mentally deranged.

Police said that in a bid to escape, Rajesh reportedly jumped from the balcony of the adjacent house but was caught by the neighbours. DCP (Northeast) A K Singla said that the accused was stressed about a family dispute. The official said: “We have initiated investigation and are waiting for the accused to give a statement based on which further action will be taken.”

According to a senior police official, the deceased have been identified as Ram Kishan (60), Kiranpal (30) and Raju (26) while the injured are Tarun (28) and Karan, Kiranpal’s son (15).

The incident took place at around 1:30 am at E-block of Nand Nagri area where Rajesh, along with Ram Kishan (60), Kiranpal, Tarun, Raju, Karan and his son were sleeping. Rajesh allegedly took a heavy wooden plank and smashed the heads of the victims after which he tried to escape from the spot.

Sharda, a relative of the victims, said that Rajesh along with his wife, Rakhi and two children lived in Alwar, Rajasthan, and often came down to Nand Nagri to meet the family.

Rekha, wife of the accused, told Millennium Post that prior to the incident, there was no problem.

However, sources said that there was a long drawn domestic dispute going on between Rajesh and his in-laws.

“Irked by the fact that Rajesh’s father-in-law, Ramkishan, a retired MCD employee, had decided to get his youngest daughter married without taking advice from Rajesh, the latter decided to bludgeon everyone,” said a senior investigator.

Sharda further added: “Like always, the family had dinner. While all the men went upstairs on the terrace to sleep, the women of the household slept on the first floor. At around 1 am, the women heard loud noises, they went out and saw that neighbours had caught Rajesh. One of the neighbours, who saw Rajesh jumping from the balcony, told us that he thought that a thief was trying to escape. It was only when one of the women went to the terrace that they found the men lying in a pool of blood.”

Police were informed after which they rushed all the injured persons to GTB hospital where Ramkishan, Raju and Kiranpal were declared brought dead while Tarun and Karan are still undergoing treatment.

Police further said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Nand Nagri police station. Further investigation is still on.
