Three of family found dead inside Baguiati residence

Three members of a family were found dead inside their house at Baguiati which was locked from outside on Monday. The incident triggered tension in the area.

Police said that the victims were identified as Gyanendra Mitra (60), his wife Bimala Mitra (55) and their 28-year-old daughter Soma Mitra, who had been living with them at their house in the Arjunpur area of Baguiati for a while.

On Monday morning, the locals felt a foul smell emanating from the Mitras’ residence and saw that its door was locked from the outside. They informed the police who reached the spot soon and broke open the door. After entering into the house, the decomposed bodies of the three victims were found.

Police found injury marks on the head of the victims which suggests that the assailants might have hit them with a heavy instrument. They have sent the three bodies to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination and have started a murder case in this connection. They have apprehended five persons, including three women, who are under interrogation.

During interrogation, police came to know that the victims were engaged in a quarrel with some of their neighbours over construction of a boundary wall. Some locals told the police that the victims did not have cordial relations with the nearby residents.

Santosh Pandey, Deputy Commissioner, Detective Department, Bidhannagar Commissionrate arrived at the spot to investigate the situation. Pandey confirmed that as per preliminary reports, the assailants could have hit the victims with some blunt weapon and then locked the door from the outside so that it seemed that the victims were out of town. Police are in a fix as to why the local
people did not have any clues about the murders.

The Mitras often engaged in quarrels with their neighbours over trivial issues. The residents had not seen the Mitra family for the last few days. They thought that the family might have gone for a tour as the front door had been locked. They became suspicious once they felt a foul smell from the house.

Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the triple murder. According to the preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the trio might have been murdered due to some personnel quarrel.
