Three killed in separate lightning strikes in Bengal

Three people were killed in two separate incidents of lightning and thunder storm that struck the state in past 24 hours. 

A thunder storm that had hit various parts of the state on Saturday night caused much damage of property and claimed the life of a person in Ketugram in Burdwan. The other two persons were from Purulia who died after being struck by a lightning. The victims were going to a field on Sunday morning when the accident took place. The local people reached the spot and informed the matter to police. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. The incident has cast a pall of gloom in the village. 

The other incident took place late Saturday night when the victim Arati Das was trapped under a portion of the wall that fell on her at Srerampur village of Burdwan. The thunder storm had caused massive damage in Burdwan as it swept away the tin and tiles made roof of various houses. While in some others the walls had collapsed prompting the villagers to stay under the open sky and passed the entire night. Around 150 villagers were rendered homeless following the incident. Many cattle were killed due to storm that lasted for few minutes in Ketugram. 

Altogether six people have been killed in lightening in past three days in the state. Various parts of the city and the districts had witnessed rainfall which has brought some relief from the sweltering heat. In last two consecutive days the city and adjoining places had received rainfall in the night.
