Three killed in separate accidents

Three people died in separate road accidents that had taken place in city and outskirts on Saturday night.

A 32-year-old woman was mowed down by a speeding truck at Park Circus connector in Saturday night which spread tension in the area. The woman was crossing the road when the truck hit her from the side. The driver fled the spot, but his vehicle was seized. However, the cops of Topsia police station and the traffic police had a harrowing time controlling the situation after the accident. The locals poured onto the street and started alleging repeated rash driving in the area.

Police informed Nilu Begham, a resident of Mallikpur of North 24 Parganas was crossing a road when the speeding truck lost its control and hit her there. “She worked as a domestic help in a house at Park Circus. She was returning home at that time. It was at around 11 pm when the accident took place,” said an eyewitness.

Meanwhile, in another incident, one person died in an accident at VIP Road on Saturday night. A cyclist was killed and two others were injured when one of the two racing buses lost its control and hit those in the road. The cyclist died on the spot. The other two were rushed to the nearby hospital. At least 20 people were injured in that accident. The eyewitnesses said the bus that hit those passers-by, grazed with the pavement and demolished several pillars. One App-based cab was demolished and the driver of the cab was taken to the hospital.

In Madhyamgram, a youth biker died after he collided with a truck at Madhyamgram Bridge on Saturday night. The incident had taken place at around 10 pm as the youth tried to escape police checking. “He was riding the bike without a helmet. He sped up the bike to avoid the police, but collided with the truck. The truck fled after the incident,” said a police officer.

Another youth was killed in Madhyamgram on Saturday night after an auto rickshaw hit him on the road. The locals caught the accused driver and handed him over to the police. They started protest on the road.
