Three held for snatching valuables worth ‘5 lakh from businessman

Police have arrested three miscreants who were trying to flee after snatching valuables from a businessman at Sukantanagar area under Airport police station. Police said that three miscreants stopped a businessman who was returning home on his motor cycle. The miscreants knew that the businessman Shyamal Biswas was a resident of Baduria area in North 24 Parganas. When Biswas came near the Sukantanagar area, the three miscreants stopped him and snatched valuables worth Rs 5 lakh. 

Upon hearing the screams of the businessman, the police personnel who were inside a patrolling car chased the miscreants who came on motorcycle and caught them after a prolonged chase. Police have recovered one pipe-gun, a dagger and a knife from the possession of the accused. Police also recovered the amount that was snatched from the businessman.

In the interrogation police came to know that the accused had been committing theft and snatching at various parts of North 24 Parganas. They were remanded in 14 days police custody after being produced before the Barrackpore court on Wednesday.

Those who were arrested have been identified as Gopal Roy, Mir Ali Azim and Sona. Police said that some other gang members who were involved in the incident had fled the spot after the incident.

Police were conducting raids in various places to nab the other culprits. Police said that all the accused were dreaded criminals and have committed various crimes in different places.

Police said that the accused might have been involved in some theft incidents that had taken place in various parts of North 24 Parganas in past few months. Police are also investigating if the accused were involved in a snatching incident that had taken place on Jessore road near Birati few days ago.
