Three held for duping man of diamonds worth Rs 30 L

Police have arrested three accused in case of cheating a diamond businessman on Friday. Diamonds worth Rs 11 lakh were recovered from them.

A case against the accused was filed on 7 June in the Karol Bagh police station after they cheated Sauri KK Shah, a resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The accused fled with diamonds worth Rs 30 lakh.

According to a police officer, ‘The complainant alleged that in the month of April his friend Neerav Jani introduced him to a man named Deepak Shah who in turn introduced Sauri to his friend Rajat Aggarwal. Both Deepak and Rajat introduced themselves as diamond dealers.’

‘The three assured Sauri that if he lent them diamonds on credit, he would earn huge profits. Sauri fell in the trap immediately and handed over diamonds worth Rs 78,4432 to Rajat,’ the officer added.
Rajat then told Sauri he would make the payment in Delhi. Sauri came to Delhi with another consignment of diamonds worth Rs 30 lakh. The three met in an office and Rajat took the diamonds from Sauri on the pretext of checking their authenticity to another room. However, he never returned.

Having waited for long, Sauri called Rajat on his mobile phone. However, nobody answered the phone. The three accused have been identified as Rajat Aggarwal (35) from Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Umar (40) and Mohsin Mansoori (28) from Rajasthan. Umar and Mansoori are the alleged brokers in the case.

Alok Kumar, DCP said, ‘Diamonds worth Rs 6 lakh have been recovered from the possession of Aggarwal. And diamonds worth Rs 5 lakh have been recovered from Mansoori.’
