Three generations bound together

Masters of Hindustani Classical Music, a much awaited album conceived and conceptualised by Meeta Pandit is going to be released in the Capital by Minister for Culture, Shripad Yesso Naik.

Pandit has painstakingly compiled India’s musical legacy through a documented recording of maestros belonging to the classical era. The recordings feature India’s rich traditions of music that have lived and thrived through the efforts of artistes, composers, disciples of the legendary gurus and patrons of gharanas.

The album is a selection from the archival audio-visual recording done at Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, the premier arts institute of India. 25 maestros of Hindustani Classical Music have been recorded in the past 4 years.  Efforts were taken to have a collection of traditional compositions, as well as rare compositions that are at least three generations old.

This legacy has also been enriched with contemporary influences, the cross-currents of newer genres and diverse performance styles.

The music launch of maestro Pt. Laxman Krishnarao will give a glimpse of the treasured compositions of the Gwalior Gharana after which the artiste will be performing at the concert.

Audience will get to hear rare genres such as- khayaal and its varieties-khayaalnumatarana, khayaalnumatappa along with tappa, chaturang, ashta padi, trivat, tarana, pad, hori, thumri and jhoola for the first time ever.
