Three dead, two injured in separate road accidents

One youth from the city and two others including a boy from Burdwan were killed in two separate road accidents. Two others were injured in the accidents.

The first incident took place under Amherst Street police station at around 9 am on Tuesday when a speeding app based cab hit a motorcycle. The accident occurred at Sukhia Street and APC road crossing when the victim, Arindam Pathak was riding on a motor cycle. Another person was injured in the incident.

Local people said that the cab was running at top speed and as a result, the driver could not control the vehicle and he hit the motorcycle. The victim fell on the ground. Pathak received severe injuries on various parts of his body. 

Local people spotted the victim lying in the pool of blood and rushed him to the hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The incident spread tension at the spot. Traffic jam was created in the area following the accident. The accused driver fled the spot immediately after the accident. Police have seized the vehicle and started a raid to nab the driver.

In another tragic incident, a father and his son died after the motorcycle they were riding on was knocked down by a truck near Jamalpur in Burdwan on Monday morning. The mother received serious injuries on her body and is undergoing treatment at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.

Police said Soumen Chatterjee along with his wife Mahua Chatterjee and their son Abhigyan was going to his in-laws house at Srikishnapur under Jamalpur police station. She was going to take part in Bhaiphota at her parental house. They started off from Kalna on Tuesday morning. When they reached Hare Krishna Kongar bridge in Jamalpur, a speeding truck hit the motor bike from behind.

As a result of the accident, all the three victims fell on the road. The father and his son were declared brought dead after being taken to the hospital and the woman is under treatment. According to the doctors, her injuries are serious in nature. The truck driver had fled the spot along with the vehicle after the accident.

Local people staged protest at the spot alleging that police failed to take any action against the traffic offenders. There is no proper surveillance by the police as a result of which the number of accidents are going up, alleged the local residents. Police are conducting raids to nab the accused driver.

In another incident, a driver of a car was injured when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned on Maa flyover in the city on Monday resulting in huge traffic jam in the area.
