Three dead, above 34 injured in separate road accidents

Three persons were killed and more than 34 people were injured in three separate road accidents in the state. The first accident took place at Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar on Wednesday at around 11 pm when a private bus carrying nearly 40 passengers overturned. Police said that two persons succumbed to their injuries after being taken to Mathabhanga Sub-divisional Hospital. Around 30 injured people are undergoing treatment at the hospital while the injuries of some of them were serious.

The local people took part in the rescue operations and removed the injured persons from inside the bus. The injured were rushed to the hospital. According to the doctors, four persons are in serious condition and they have been shifted to a private nursing home. Police said that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle as it was running at high speed.

In another incident, four people were injured when a Toto was hit by a truck on Kona Expressway on Wednesday night. The incident triggered panic in the area. The local people rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and took them to the nearest hospital.

In another incident, a biker died when he was hit by a dumper on a state highway at Soraihat area. Police said that the biker was heading towards Balurghat from Malda’s Gajol when it was hit by the speeding dumper. The victim has been identified as Shibu Maiti. He was a resident of Gajol in Malda.
The local people rushed to the spot and found that the victim was lying by the roadside and was profusely bleeding. Both the bike and the dumper had caught fire following the accident.

The local residents took the victim to Rasidpur Hospital. Later, he died in the hospital. After being informed, the police reached the spot and managed to arrest the accused driver of the vehicle.
