Three critically injured in drunk driving case

A car, which was going towards Ultadanga from Maniktala, met with a severe accident near Kankurgachi late on Saturday night.

Three youths, including the driver, were injured and rushed to Nilratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital. Police informed that they were admitted there in a critical condition.

However, police seized the wrecked car from the spot and took it to the police station. Further inquiry revealed that the driver was intoxicated and his friends sitting in the back were consuming alcohol.

“The car was actually coming from Maniktala. The driver, in his state of inebriation, lost control of the car in Kankurgachi Road. The car overturned there and while the locals tried to rescue them, they could not succeed,” said a traffic police officer.

“A traffic police team and cops from local police station reached there. The police-crane pulled out the car and the injured persons were rescued from there,” said a police officer.

Further investigation revealed that the three were businessmen. “They were partners. We’ve learnt that they were coming from a bar and returning home. But they decided to drink more during the journey,” said the officer.

“We could not speak to them as their condition is critical. We are studying the CCTV footage and figuring out how the car toppled. We’ll arrest them on the charge of rash driving when they would be discharged from the hospital,” the officer added.

There have been several cases of drunk and driving where the drunken driver met with an accident.
It may be recalled that last week, an intoxicated man, who was driving his car in high speed, hit another car which was driven by his friend.

Both the drivers were heavily injured and taken to the nearby hospital at Bagmari. They were admitted there in a critical situation.

The incident was close to the location of Saturday night’s accident. Both the vehicles were approaching Kankurgachi crossing, when the cars collided. The drivers received heavy injuries in their foreheads and chest and were rushed to the local hospital.
