Three arrests aid cops to solve over 58 cases of car stereo thefts

With the arrest of three accused, Delhi Police have claimed to have solved 58 cases of car stereo thefts.

The accused identified as Jakir, Rahim and Habbal, all residents of New Usmanpur, were arrested after information was received about their whereabouts and they were arrested from GTB IBHAS Road in North-east Delhi. So far, 38 stolen stereos have been recovered.

According to police, the activities of the trio came to light after several incidents of motor vehicle stereo thefts were reported from the North-east district.

“During investigation, we had deployed sources to get clues about the motor vehicle stereo thieves. A team visited the scene of crime and analysed the modus operandi used in the crime and several raids were conducted at their possible hideouts and efforts were made to ascertain their movement,” said a senior police official privy to the investigation.

After their whereabouts were traced, a trap was set and the accused who were travelling with plastic bags were identified. “They managed to identify the police after which they tried to flee from the spot. They were apprehended after a brief chase,” the official added.

During interrogation,the accused disclosed that they were ragpickers and would target cars by breaking the windows of the car and steal the stereos.

The accused further disclosed that they were involved in various cases of motor vehicle thefts across North-east Delhi.
