Third Front a non-starter: Sushil Modi

BJP on Thursday made light of chief minister Nitish Kumar’s claim that the Third Front would form the next government at the Centre, saying it would remain a dream due to conflict of interests arising from multiple contenders for the PM’s post.

The disintegration process of the third front already started with the AIADMK parting ways following differences with the Left parties in Tamil Nadu. SP and the Left parties failed to work out seat-sharing arrangement in Uttar Pradesh, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said in a statement.

The SP also decided not to put up candidates against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha seats, Modi said, questioning its leader Mulayam Singh Yadav’s commitment to the Third Front.

Even if the Third Front came to power, it would collapse within months as all leaders of the Front would try to outdo each other to become the prime minister and in that case there would be mid-term polls.
