Thieves target three houses in Loni, decamp with Delhi police constable’s uniform

A group of half-a-dozen thieves targeted three houses in Ghaziabad on Tuesday night, and not only decamped with cash and jewellery, but also attacked the victims with canes and knives, when they tried to stop them. All this while officials at the local police station were allegedly busy celebrating a colleague’s birthday. The robbers targetted the houses of a  Delhi police constable, a Delhi Metro employee and a local artisan.

The incident took place in the Jawali village in the Loni police station area. The first target was Mukesh and his wife, who were both asleep when the robbers entered the house. 'The thieves entered the house from the terrace and tried to take away the gold jewellery my wife was wearing.

The robbers’ attempt to take off the jewellery woke up my wife and she raised an alarm. This woke me up and I too tried to fight them off. But the robbers beat us up with canes and forced us to sniff something that made us lose our consciousness, thus managing to take away whatever cash and jewellery they could find,’ said Mukesh.

After this they entered the house of Jai Singh, a Delhi Metro employee. The robbers attacked Singh and his wife with canes and sharp-edged weapons. Seeing this, the couple’s minor daughters, Puja (5) and Sanchi (3), started crying, the sound of which brought neighbours to the Singh house. The robbers fled seeing the crowd.

But the gang struck again, and this time at the house of a Delhi police constable, Alok, a resident of the area. The gang besides looting jewellery and cash from the house, also took away Alok’s police uniform, which was recovered from nearby fields in the morning.

The injured have been admitted to Ambey Hospita. 'We have registered a case and are trying to nab the culprits,' said an official.
