From AB’s baby to Abhishek Bachchan, how has the journey been?
Lots of fun. I have enjoyed it thoroughly. It’s great since I love being an actor and love being part of Bollywood. I love entertaining the audience and I really feel blessed that I have the opportunity to do this everyday.
You belong to an illustrious Bollywood family. How much of your acting talent is hardwork and how much is it a natural instinct?
I think it has to be a bit of both. For an actor it’s hard work that leads to an instinct. I surely have the acting genes passed onto me but the hard work which I have put in can not be ruled out. I feel I have definitely grown as an actor and the audience is now accepting more of me.
Do you feel that a celebrity’s personal life often goes for a toss?
Well that’s part and parcel of being a celebrity right. It is something you are very well aware of before you become an actor. It’s fine as long as you do not pay attention. Rather, you should pay attention to your acting, That’s why you are there.
There are films like Gangs of Wasseypur and Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster doing well. Do you think the script is the new star now?
Script has always been the star. No film has ever worked simply because of a star, it has to have a story, the most important aspect of a film. An actor can only bring the audience to theatres, but making them sit through the film and remain involved is totally dependent on the script.
If not an actor, did you have any other career in mind?
No, I think if you want to be a successful actor there should be no choice. You can not have a safety net if you want to do well.
Regional cinema has won a lot of accolades in the recent National Awards. Do you ever want to be a part of it?
I have been a part of it in the past. I have done two Bengali films actually- Antar Mahal directed by Rituparno Ghosh and Desh. I hope to work again soon if the script excites me enough.
Are there any other film making aspect which interests you?
Production interests me but that’s about it. Am currently an actor and would like to focus on it only.
When will we see you and Aishwarya working together?
Well we are available together only if the script suits us both. If we are offered good and substantial roles we will readily take it up.
Your daughter is already a celebrity. Does that make you an anxious father or a proud father?
There is nothing to be proud of my daughter’s celebrity status. She is my daughter that’s what makes me proud. She is loving and respectful and that’s what is more important.
