The summer beauty lowdown

Its summertime! Fresh hues of ruby red, punchy coral and electric tangerine rule the beauty box office where eyeliner is the newfound essential and soft chignon and braids promise to lower the temperature further. Hollywood return makeup and hair expert, Ishika Taneja gives a complete lowdown on what to do and what not to this summer...

Pop Alert

At first, it seemed like summer would be a time of colorless lips. Then, bold and dark lips hit the market. The idea is to show off a strong look with lips drenched in rich tones of crimson, burgundy and scarlet’s. But, if red to you is walking the danger line, then choose from a variety of lollypop colors like strawberry pink or citrusy orange. A vivid lipstick may not be the easiest thing to carry so make sure you balance the look with kohl-lined eyes with mascara along with a neutral eye shadow. Now you are ready to go dark and matte!

Bold Brows

After being a hit on the runways, bold brows are coming your way. Play up your arches by filling in the scanty areas with a powder or pencil that is a shade darker than your natural brows. Well-defined brows are definitely the key to attention grabbing eyes. Create an attractive yet balanced picture by donning earthy and neutral eye shadows, tinted peach lips with highlighted brown eyebrows.

Pastel Eyes

Have fun with aquamarine blue, canary yellow and emerald green on the eyes. You can play up with these colors in two ways- coloring your eyelids in these colors for an evening look or opting for a sophisticated thick colored eye liner for a soft day look. For instance, going out for a movie or lunch date tells you to carry off a bold, winged liner in shades of blue and green complementing bubble gum pink lips. At night, create a sensual look with black winged eyeliner and lips touched in coral or crimson. Adding colored Swarovski is also a good idea.

Dewy Finish

What is most important is a fresh, confident and glowing skin. Use a tinted mousse for oily skin and a tinted moisturizer for dry skin. Ice your face for a minute before applying makeup to open closed pores and to ensure that you don't sweat. Try a light reflecting concealer below the eyes to treat deep, sunken eyes. Carry a blotting paper around especially if you sweat a lot. It will help you stay shine free on the nose and forehead.

Braid It

From regular plaits to the more edgier ones, it is the season to tie your hair in the most fashionable way as you can. Grabbing colorful and sheer accessories like headgears and headbands will take the look a notch up. You can also play with fresh flowers for a new look this summer.  A soft chignon with demure makeup was sported by Amy Adams and Amanda Seyfried at the Academy Awards recently.
