Terrific performance by India: Tendulkar

Former batting great Sachin Tendulkar hailed India’s 130-run victory over South Africa here Sunday, saying that it was a ‘terrific performance’ by the defending champions at the MCG.

India beat the Proteas to break their jinx of losing to the latter in World Cup matches. The Asian powerhouse had lost all their previous three Cup meetings in 1992, 1999 and 2011 to South Africa.

“Terrific performance team India. First win in a World Cup against South Africa. First time for me in the stands in a World Cup. Memorable firsts,” tweeted Tendulkar. The former batsman also expressed his feelings about visiting the historic 90,000-capacity stadium. “Always special to be back at cricket stadiums. Atmosphere at the MCG is fantastic! #CWC15 #IndvsSA,” tweeted the 41-year-old, posting a selfie with the crowd in the background.

The crowd at the iconic stadium erupted in loud cheers, chanting ‘Sachin! Sachin!’ after getting a glimpse of the former opening batsman on the big screens at the ground.
