Teen wounded, armed robbers escape

Armed robbers shot a 14-year-old boy when he tried to raise alarm in east Delhi’s Farsh Bajar on Friday afternoon. The robbers also held the family members hostage and injured another 16-year-old boy while fleeing.

The incident took place at around 1.30 pm at the residence of Manoj Tayal, who owns a factory in east Delhi. According to the family members, robbers were at the house for nearly an hour.

Tayal’s wife and her three children were sleeping, when someone knocked on the door. When her elder son, Shaan, opened the door, two armed robbers barged into the house and held the family hostage.

‘After Shaan opened the door, the robbers first asked for Manoj Tayal. When he said his father was not in the house, they pushed him inside and one of them held the whole family hostage at gun point. While the second robber started ransacking the house,’ said a police officer.

Police said Shaan’s younger brother Priyanshu Tayal screamed for help in between and one of the robbers fired a bullet at him, which hit him near the head. Shaan was also beaten by robbers.

Meanwhile, robbers fled the spot and victim’s mother made the PCR call. Priyanshu was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

A case of robbery has been registered and various teams have been formed to trace the robbers. ‘We are hopeful to solve the case in the shortest span of time,’ said Prabhakar, deputy commissioner [east].

‘No one saw them coming so it is not clear whether they had come on a bike or a four-wheeler. But it appears to be the handiwork of someone who knew the owner,’ said a senior police officer.

Police said that the main gate of the house was open because of the ongoing construction work at the house.

The police has asked the owner to provide them the details of the workers of his factory as well as the domestic help.
