Techie’s kin demand action against cop who shot him

The kin of a ‘mentally depressed’ engineer, who went on a rampage and attacked people here before being fatally shot by police, have demanded that necessary action be taken against the “concerned policemen”.

Sardar Jagjeeth Singh, a relative of deceased Balvinder Singh, on Wednesday said the family has lodged a complaint with the in-charge District Superintendent of Police, requesting him to take action against the concerned policemen of I-Town Police Station Karimnagar for allegedly “killing” the techie.

“The police failed to control Balvinder. The cops instead of firing at his legs shot him in the abdomen and chest, which led to his death,” he alleged.

“Necessary steps were not taken before opening fire at him,” he added. Balvinder Singh alias Babloo, a software engineer from Bengaluru on Tuesday attacked people on the street with a sword and severely injured as many as six persons, including his parents and two policemen, before being shot dead. Singh, resident of Laxmi Nagar locality of Karimnagar town, was undergoing treatment for mental depression and other psychological problems following his failure in the civil services examination recently, Deputy Superintendent of Police, J Rama Rao had said.
