Taltala murder: Accused person dies in hospital

The 58-year-old man Ashok Dutta who surrendered to the police after killing his wife in his Taltala home on Monday afternoon, died on Tuesday.

Police said that investigation revealed that there was an altercation between the accused and his wife Mala Dutta. He had strangulated her after the altercation and smothered her using a pillow to confirm her death.

Police came to know that he had left his home after killing his wife and they suspect that he went to the banks of river Hooghly to commit suicide. He had planned to jump into the river to commit suicide. But he had failed to do so. He had also taken an attempt to commit suicide by lying on tracks of the circular railways that run along the bank of the river Hooghly.

After failing in both of his attempts, he returned home in the evening and consumed poison. While writhing in pain after consuming poison, he went to a neighbour and told him that he had killed
his wife.

Before his neighbour react, the accused had left the place and straightaway went to Taltala police station at around 9.30 pm and confessed that he had killed his wife.

Police admitted the person to NRS Medical College and Hospital where he died on Tuesday night.
