Taj makes Dubai foray with 296-room hotel

Taj Dubai comprises club rooms, 16 junior suites and 15 luxury suites with panoramic views of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and the gigantic Dubai Mall, the company said in a statement here on Monday. It also has two lavish apartments - Maharaja Suite and the 680-square meter Presidential Suite covering the entire 35th floor.

Established in 1901, the Taj Group now has 128 resorts, palaces and hotels spanning 64 locations in the country and 15 overseas in four continents. Its international properties are spread across the Maldives, Malaysia, Britain, the US, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Africa and West Asia. Moreover, Tata Group-controlled Vivanta by Taj is planning to add 10 more hotels in its network to take its count to 40 in the next five years.

Of these 10 hotels, two would be coming up in Guwahati and Amritsar this fiscal. “We would have 10 more Vivanta by Taj hotels in next five years... We would open Vivanta by Taj at Guwahati in next six months,” said Vivanta by Taj Hotels & Resorts Chief Operating Officer Veer Vijay Singh. He further added: “We have projects at places like Rishikesh, Andaman and Nicobar islands and Lakshadweep in pipelines.”

Vivanta by Taj -- which has its hotels in Sri Lanka, Maldives and Malaysia -- has also plans to foray into Middle East and Africa.

“We have plans to expand more in Middle East and Africa. Our Dubai property is coming in next three years,” Singh added. However, Singh did not shared the investment details for expansions.
