Tainted ex-CBI chief Singh sacked as UPSC member

Millennium Post was the first to break the story on the alleged nexus between Singh and meat exporter cum hawala operator Moin Qureshi way back in February 2014. Our reports suggested that Qureshi acted as a middleman in several cases involving the investigative agency.

The hawala operator apparently received hefty sums of money from powerful people for influencing the CBI. The money made its way to foreign bank accounts of Qureshi.

The well connected Qureshi also had close links with senior Congress leaders who were in turn close to the last CBI director Ranjit Sinha.

The former CBI chief’s sacking from UPSC was hastened by his involvement in  the Moin Qureshi hawala probe. He was asked to provide details of his properties, bank accounts, lockers and credit cards.

The investigation on Singh was in connection with the suspected case of tax evasion by meat exporter Moin Qureshi. He had allegedly rented his apartment’s basement to the meat exporter.

A Doon school alumnus, 57-year-old Qureshi has been under Income Tax department lens for several months now for alleged tax evasion as the tax sleuths claimed that the turnover of his companies was ‘under-reported’.

The Income Tax department claimed to have 500 hours of telephonic transcripts of Qureshi even as reports surfaced about alleged links of a former CBI Director A P Singh with the meat exporter. The tax sleuths had roped in Enforcement Directorate as well to probe alleged money laundering in the case by Qureshi, who had to resign as president of its old boys’ society of Doon school recently after the controversy broke out.

Meanwhile, there is now a growing demand from social activists for the former Central Bureau of Investigation chief’s arrest, and for the case to be taken to its logical conclusion.

Eyebrows were also raised when Singh, as UPSC member, continued to live in the plush bungalow he occupied as the CBI director. His proximity to certain Congress leaders made this possible, sources claimed.
