Surya confident of victory in last phase

Surya Kanta Misra, CPI(M) state secretary on Thursday said except in five seats party candidates and those from the democratic secular alliance will win in all the remaining seats in East Midnapore and Cooch Behar where polling remained by and large peaceful.

The election was held in 25 seats of which 16 are in East Midnapore and 9 are in Cooch Behar. Trinamool Congress had won all the 16 seats in East Midnapore in 2011. The party expects to retain the result this year too.

However, Misra did not say why CPI(M) had failed to field polling agents in 331 booths in East Midnapore and 60 in Cooch Bihar. It may be recalled that Misra has received snubbing from the Election Commission after his allegation that Subhendu Adhikari had held meeting with seven officers in charge was found to be baseless and false.

He said the party was confident in coming back to power. Earlier, he said that the party had got 100 seats and was fighting to get 100 more. It may be recalled that in 2011 Left Front chairman had held a press conference on the eve of the publication of election results and had said that LF was all set to set up 8th Left Front.

However, when the results were out he was not seen anywhere near Alimuddin Street. Misra urged people to maintain cool and not to get swayed by rumours.
