Summer succour: Rains lash city

Showers on Wednesday brought relief to Delhiites who were reeling under an intense heat wave. The brief spell of rain brought down the temperature significantly — three notches below the season’s average at 35.9 degrees Celsius.

The Met department forecast light rain on Thursday.

Wednesday started on a sunny note but by noon it started pouring in the national capital and the adjoining districts of Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurgaon.

The rainfall recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm was 2.4 millimeter.

The minimum temperature settled two notches above average at 27.5 degrees Celsius. The humidity wavered between a high and low of 86 and 44 percent.

“Light rains and thundershowers are expected on Thursday,” said an India Meteorological Department official.

Thursday’s maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 37 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively. Tuesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 38.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 26 degrees Celsius.
