Sumitra Mahajan deplores ‘derogatory remarks’ by BJP leader OP Dhankar

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday deplored the ‘derogatory remarks’ by a BJP leader, who had said that he would bring women from Bihar to ensure all men in Haryana get married.
The issue was raised in the House by Congress member from Supaul Ranjita Ranjan who said that BJP National Kisan Morcha chief OP Dhankar’s reported remark is an ‘insult’ to women.
‘Those who sit in the high offices should not use derogatory remarks as it hurts the feelings of people, culture and tradition of our country... We all must do the needful to ensure that such incidents do not occur,’ Mahajan said.

Dhankar had contested the Lok Sabha polls from Rohtak and had lost to chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s son Deepender Singh Hooda. Rohtak was the lone seat in Haryana that Congress could win. Dhankar’s reported remarks had come in the wake of quite skewed sex ratios in Haryana. BJP has however maintained that Dhankar was misquoted.

Ranjan also referred to the recent controversial remarks of Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal warning the CPI-M men that he will let loose his (Trinamool Congress’) boys in their homes and they will commit rape. The Congress MP wondered why people dragged women in every issue.
Later talking to PTI, Ranjan said that she was thankful to Mahajan for responding on the issue.
Ranjita’s husband Rajesh Ranjan, who is an MP from Madhepura from Lalu Prasad’s RJD had given an adjournment notice in Lok Sabha yesterday on the issue, while Ranjita gave a notice for raising the issue today. The controversy had led to disruption in Bihar assembly as well.
