Suicide threat turns real

A 40-year-old owner of a plant nursery executed his threat to lay his life, against widespread corruption in the country, on 12/12/12. Reportedly, one Kishanpal had warned the police and administration in writing, that he will  commit suicide at 12.12 pm on 12/12/12, by jumping offa water tank installed at Pratap Vihar.

The officials, however, took the threat lightly, and mishandled the situation, leading to his death at 11.05 pm. According to sources, Kishanpal had participated in the Anna Hazare movement at Ram Lila Ground.

Around 9.15 am on Wednesday, Kishanpal got on top of the 60-feet water tank and reiterated his threat. After some time, local police arrived and tried to convince him to come down, but he insisted on his demands, including death penalty for corrupt people, criminal cases against all corrupt leaders and bureaucrats and so on.  Some police officials then climbed up the water tank to bring him down, but he resisted their effort and in the ensuing scuffle, he fell down in full public view.

‘He was mentally unstable and was being treated at the Institute of Mental Health and Hospital in Agra. He had ropes with him and took the lethal jump when policemen were trying to bring him down,’ said S S Yadav, S P City of Ghaziabad.  Kishanpal ran a plant nursery in the area and was reportedly undergoing treatment since October 2011. He hailed from Bulandshahar and was residing in Bahram Pur area of the, locality. Kishanpal is survived by two dauthers and a son.
