A sub-judicial magistrate from Dinhata court died in a road accident on Monday morning.

The victim, Pallab Chakraborty, was killed when a car he was travelling in met with an accident at the Baliamari area under Kotwali police station in Cooch Behar Monday morning. Police said that Chakraborty was driving the car when the accident occurred. He was going to some place for a personal errand along with a security person Nilmani Roy.

When he was travelling through Baliamari, a lamb suddenly came in his way. As the car was being driven at a speed, the victim could not control its movement. To avoid hitting the animal, Chakraborty tried to steer the vehicle to the right side of the road. But he ended up hitting a Bolero car which was coming from the opposite direction.

Locals and police personnel reached the spot and took the victim to the Cooch Behar MJN Hospital, where he died after some time. Roy, the magistrate’s security personnel, also received serious injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at the MJN Hospital.
