Student ragged, suffers fracture

A first-year student of School of Planning and Architecture has become the victim of ragging and fractured his leg following which he had to undergo surgery, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place in SPA hostel in Taimoor Nagar on 2 September and a case was registered on 30 December under sections 341 (wrongful restraint, 323 (hurt) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code.

The father of the student, who hails from Ranchi, had complained to the SPA Dean which was later forwarded to police. According to the complaint filed by the father, the victim had informed him that he was ragged by his seniors. The father asked him to come back. He was ragged by second year students on the roof-top of their hostel. ‘He could not board the train on 10 September because of his injury. He had problems in walking. On 11 September, he managed to reach Ranchi. His right leg suffered fracture’ the father said in the complaint.
