Student dies after being beaten up by shopkeeper in Manickpara

In a shocking incident, a higher secondary examinee was killed after being beaten up by a shopkeeper whose shop the victim had gone to buy some eggs. The incident occurred at Manickpara in Krishnanagar on Monday morning. 

Police said that the victim, Bikram Sarkar alias Pappu (18), had gone to the shop of one Babusona Das this morning.

After buying the eggs, the victim put the egg-holder on his bicycle carrier. Somehow the egg-holder fell on the ground and the eggs got damaged.

Following the incident, a quarrel broke out between the shop owner and the victim. This resulted in a scuffle between the two.

The shopkeeper hit the student in his ear. The victim fell on the ground and became unconscious.

The local people told the police that they tried to stop both of them but they failed to do so.

They appealed the shopkeeper not to beat up the boy who was supposed to appear in the higher secondary examination next year.

Soon after the incident, the local people rushed the victim to Krishnanagar district hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Doctors at the hospital said that the victim had suffered internal injuries.

After being informed, the police reached the hospital and started an investigation. After the news of the victim’s death reached his house, a pal of gloom descended on the family members.

They could not accept that a boy could be killed in this manner on a petty issue. They demanded a high level inquiry into the incident.

The police have started interrogating local people who were present on the spot at the time of the incident.

They are also investigating if the victim or his family had past enmity with the accused.
