State to lease out terraces in 3 CSTC depots’ land

In a bid to monitor the idle assets and to generate revenue, the state transport department will lease out the terraces of one-storey concrete structures on 276 cottahs of land in three of Calcutta State Transport Corporation’s (CSTC) depots – Garia, Sarsuna and Thakurpukur.

The lessee will have to construct the one-storey structure and he can undertake any commercial activity following legal terms and conditions on its terrace. The depot will remain functional as it is at present in the ground floor.

The terrace of around 104 cottah will be leased out in Garia depot while that of 13 cottah and 159 cottah in Sarsuna and Thakurpukur depot respectively. The last date for submission of the bid documents is September 12 for all the depots and forms are available from July 18 in the websites www.banglarmukh.gov.in, www.wbfin.nic.in and http://cstc.org.in/.

It may be mentioned that on June 17, the state transport department had decided to lease out around 60 cottah land at Belgachia tram depot, which was also a part of the Calcutta Tramways Corporation’s (CTC) move to monitor the idle assets and the revenue generation.

Later it was decided to increase the land to be leased out to 59.33 cottah, even though initially the decision was to lease out 51.66 cottah.

The plot in Tollygunge tram depot, which was leased out in 2015, was the largest one among all the proposed lands which were leased out and are yet to be auctioned. The 241 cottah land at Tollygunge tram depot was leased out at Rs 181 crore.

It was in 2013, when the state transport department had decided to lease out a total around 374 cottah plots in six tram depots – Belgachia, Shyambazar, Galiff Street, Kalighat, Tollygunge and Kidderpore.

The land was the surplus and was lying unused. Thus, the money generated by leasing out the plots were utilised in revamping the corporations. In the first phase, the plots at Kalighat, Kidderpore and Galiff Street were leased out and then the steps were taken to lease out the plot in Belgachia tram depot. Now the surplus land in the depots of CSTC will be leased out to generate money.
