State industry department to submit a report on land bank

The state industry department will submit a report on the land bank before the Global Business Summit scheduled to be held in the city from January 7 to 9.

The Opposition parties had criticised the state government for its failure to prepare a land bank and specify the area and location of land available in the state to set up industries.

Senior officials of the state Industries Department said that 2,500 acres of land was available in Purulia, while in Malda 251 acreas land was available. 

The availability of land in Jalpaiguri, North 24-Parganas and Nadia are 670 acres, 44 acres and 89n acres respectively. In Howrah, Hooghly and Birbhum 72 acres, 92 acres and 785 acres of land are available. The officials said that this would encourage the proposed investors. “The availability of land is no longer an issue in the state and the investors will be given maps containing details of the area where they want to procure land.”

It may be recalled that the erstwhile Left Front government had failed to prepare a land bank and so agricultural had to be given to set up an automobile factory in Singur. This led to an agitation led by The TMC finally ending 34 years of the LF rule.
