State govt to hold WBJEE Medical 2016 on July 20

The state government has decided to conduct the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2016 Medical on July 20 for the admission to MBBS and BDS courses. The medical aspirants have to sit for Biology, Physics and Chemistry examinations.

There will be two sets of examination one on Biology and the other on Physics and Chemistry.
Biology examination will start at 10.30 am and will continue till 1 pm. While the other two examinations will start from 2 pm and it will end at 4 pm. In the last year the exam had begun on 9 am.

The decision to take the examination on July 20 was taken in a meeting attended by the minister of state for health Dr Shashi Panja and senior officials from the state health department and the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations.

The candidates who had filled up the form earlier do not need to submit any fresh application forms or deposit any fees for appearing in the medical entrance examination which will be carried out by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board.

As a result, the candidates who had appeared on the B.Pharm and combined examination on 17 May do not need to fill up any fresh applications for appearing the medical entrance examination; neither have they required submitting any fees for this. However, these students will be issued fresh admit card.

It may be mentioned that medical entrance was scheduled to take place on 17 May along with engineering. But the state government had decided not to hold medical entrance examinations as the Supreme Court had issued order asking all the states to implement the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from this year.

But the Centre later issued ordinance partially overturning the Supreme Court’s order allowing various states to hold their own entrance examination for this year.

However, from the next year, the NEET should be implemented by the states. NEET would be held this for admitting candidates in the Centre owned medical colleges, private medical colleges and that of the states who expressed their wish to be within the ambit of NEET.

According to the WBJEE Board, around 75,000 candidates will appear this year’s medical entrance examinations. There are around 2,900 seats in MBBS and BDS courses in the various medical and dental colleges in the seat.

The candidates will get admission to MBBS or BDS courses in various colleges depending on their ranks in the merit list.
