State govt mulls 6 greenfield townships on 460-acre land

The state government has identified 460 acres land for the construction of six greenfield townships. 

The proposed projects will come up in Asansol, Baruipur, Bolpur, Dumurjala, Kalyani and Siliguri. 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has named the cities as Agnibina, Uttam City, Gitabitan, Dumurjala, Samriddhi and Teesta. 

The uniqueness of this project is every township has a theme. It may be mentioned that the state government has come up with township policy. 

The promoters will have to purchase the land through e-auction.  They will have to make a down payment of 10 per cent of the proposed price. They will get one year time to make the full payment and during this period they will obtain necessary clearance. The time period can be extended to two years but in that case they will have to pay 12 per cent interest. 

Uttam City has been named after legendary matinee idol Uttam Kumar. It is a geriatric and wellness township under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) which will come up on 86 acres land. 

The township will be the first of its kind in the state and probably in the country where the interest of the senior citizens will be looked after.

Gitabitan in Bolpur will come up on 127 acres land and this would be dedicated to the art culture and design under Sriniketan Santiniketan Development Authority (SSDA). This unique theme based township on rich culture, art and tradition of Bengal will provide safe and quality living opportunities for every section of people and also provide a range of livelihood and economic options especially in the field of art, culture and knowledge. 

Teesta, the knowledge and healthcare hub of international potential is proposed to be developed on approximately 84 acres land under Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA). The site is abutting Asian Highway, 3km from Siliguri and 10km from Bagdogra airport and only 5km from the railway station.

Agnibina in Asansol will come up on 59 acres of land under Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA). This is half a kilometre off NH-2 and close to the railway station.  

Samriddhi, the first exclusive analytic hub, will come up on 51.4 acres land. It will be close to Kalyani Barrackpore Expressway.

The sports city is proposed to be developed on 51.4 acres land at Dumurjala under Howrah Improvement Trust (HIT). It is situated 3.5 km from the Vidyasagar Setu. The township is well connected.

It has been decided that physical infrastructure, sewerage, drainage, water supply and road up to the boundary of the proposed sites. The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) will function as the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA) of all townships.
