State govt employees now allowed paternity leave

The state government has decided to allow “paternity cum child care leave” to its employees.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced it after the Cabinet meeting in Nabanna on Wednesday evening.

The employees will get a leave for 30 days to take care of their children. An employee can take the leave at a stretch during the birth of his child and up till the child is 18 years of age.

It may be mentioned that maternity leave for 180 days was allowed by the state government and the women employees had also started getting child care leaves of 730 days.

Now the government has taken the decision to give leave for 30 days to the male employees so that they can also take additional responsibilities for their children.

All state government employees including those working in panchayats, civic bodies, undertaking companies, State aided universities, colleges and schools run by the government will be able to avail the leave .
