State government encourages use of bio-fertilizers instead of chemical ones

The Biotechnology department has already formed various committees for the smooth implementation of various projects taken up by the department. One of the main purposes of the department was to increase the productivity of various plants by administering bio fertilizers and others manures which will be fruitful for the plants.

There will be scientists and research fellows who will carry out various researches on bio fertilizers about how they can be used to increase the productivity of various plants and vegetables. For example a banana tree gives fruits once a year. Now the department would carry out research on how that particular plant can give fruits three times a year. Likewise, productivity of many other fruit trees and vegetables plants and others would be increased through various means which will be more conducive for these plants to grow. The scientists engaged in the projects will also conduct “tissue culture” as a part of their research works in the district levels also to increase the productivity of plants.

It has been seen that the vegetables and fruits that are supplied into various markets in the city are often found to be unhealthy but it also affects human health as various chemical fertilizers, rich in toxic substances is often administered on the plants to augment the productivity. The department will also carry out research on how to increase the productivity of the cattle.

The state government will provide assistance to those who rear cattle. The research will be conducted on how to increase the productivity of milk in cows. The biotechnology department has a plan to open a unit at all the districts to provide technical assistance to the farmers on how to increase the productivity of what they produce. The department is committed to ensure that the people can get vegetables, fruits and others food grains free from toxic substances at the markets. The department is also contemplating on how the productivity of food grains, vegetables could be increased in comparatively unfertile areas of Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid lot of stress to improve the standards of life for the farmers in the rural areas. She had announced lots of new projects in this regard. The Biotechnology department is also providing assistance to other departments like agriculture, pisciculture to augment production.

It may be mentioned here that the state government is going to set up four Biotechnology hubs in Burdwan, Bankura, Haldia and Kalimpong each to various projects. This will prove immensely beneficial to the people involved in the farming.

Biotechnology Minister Ashish Banerjee said that various rural biotechnology committees have been formed and they have started working. Bio fertilizers will improve the productivity of vegetables, fruits and other food grains and save people from the toxic substances used in chemical fertilizers.

“The department will also assess the performance of the research fellows and will inspect the progress from time to time. It will also provide employment to many youths who will opt their careers in this field,” Banerjee said.
