Staff to face music for issuing fake caste docu

States have been asked to take action against officials, who fail to timely verify caste certificates for people belonging to reserved and backward castes or those issuing false caste certificates. 

The move comes after cases of appointments to government jobs of candidates belonging to reserved and backward classes being withheld or delayed due to pending caste certificate verification. In order to discourage unscrupulous activities, states and UTs may consider issue of appropriate instructions for initiating disciplinary proceedings against the errant officers who default in timely verification of caste certificates or who issue false certificates, the DoPT said.
