St Stephen’s: former Bishop takes on Masih

In a recent turn of events, a complaint has been field against St Stephen College governing body chairman  Bishop Warris Masih in Church of North India alleging illegality in his functioning as the same. The complaint has been filed by former chairman of governing body of St Stephen College and also, former Bishop of the Delhi Diocese, Pritam B Santram. He has alleged that Warris cannot be appointed as chairman of governing body of St Stephen’s College as he is not the “Bishop of Delhi Diocese”.

According to the St. Stephen’s College constitution, it states that the chairman of the Society and the Governing Body shall be the “Bishop of Delhi Diocese”. Santram has alleged that Bishop Warris Masih is the Bishop of the Rajasthan Diocese and is the Moderator’s Commissary to the Delhi Diocese. The St. Stephen’s college constitution does not provide for any other person to be the chairman.

It is interesting to note that after the approval of Warris Masih, Shubha Kumar Dash who is administrative officer of St Stephen College was suspended for his alleged “misconduct” and also, an enquiry was ordered to probe the matter.
