Spurned lover throws acid on woman in Ghatal

A miscreant hurled acid on the face of a woman late Sunday night at Ghatal’s Neempata area, leaving the victim with severe injuries and fighting for her life.

Some local people tried to apprehend the man, but he managed to free himself and escape the area.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.

“The accused was a former love interest of the victim and their relationship had ended recently. The 

woman decided to relocate to Kolkata after ending the relationship,” said a police officer in West Midnapore’s Ghatal area.

Police learnt that the man had twice previously tried to abduct the woman, but both attempts were unsuccessful.

On Sunday, the man once again confronted her, but this time sprayed acid on her face.

“We have raided his house. His brother and sister-in-law were detained. We will arrest him soon,” the officer said.

It may be recalled that two youth had recently received heavy burn injuries after some goons had hurled acid bulbs at them a few weeks ago at Nadia’s Tehatta.
