Spurned lover commits suicide

The girl’s parents were admitted to the hospital with severe injuries.

Police said on Friday morning parents of the first year BA student Raju Das committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of a room in his house. His parents informed the neighbours. The local people contacted the police. The situation turned tensed when policemen from the local police station was busy bringing down Raju’s body.

Hundreds of local people gathered outside the victim’s house and they got aggrieved knowing that Raju committed suicide as the girl wanted to discontinue with their relationship.

The mob rushed towards the house of the girl and started damaging her house. They beat up her parents when they tried to settle the matter. They mob beat them up with wooden logs and bamboo sticks. A large contingent of police was pressed and the situation was brought under control. The police took both the father and mother of the girl to hospital. They were bleeding profusely. Police sent Raju’s body for an autopsy. A pall of gloom descended in the area with the death of the 19-year-old youth. Police started a probe in this connection.

In another incident, the body of a 26-year-old youth Chotu Mondal was found in a pond at Canning in South 24-Parganas. His parents claimed that he was being murdered as he was missing for the past few days and his body was dumped in the pond late Thursday night. Local people saw the body on Friday morning.
