Visitors extend unbeaten run as Neroca hold Chennai 0-0

Coimbatore: Coimbatore witnessed a goalless affair on Tuesday evening between Chennai City and NEROCA as the two sides hesitated taking risks to open the scoring.

Home side Chennai City lined up in a 4-4-2 shape with the duo of Soosai Raj and Murilo Almeida in the attack; on the other hand, Gift Raikhan opted for a similar formation which saw Nedo Turkovic paired with Nigeria-born Felix Chidi up-front. V Soundararajan's side kicked off their action early in the game as Vanspaul was fed the ball on the left wing before he squared it for Soosairaj which saw the 23-year-old release a shot wide of goal, in the second minute. While the hosts preferred building their chances from the middle, NEROCA seemed to opt for long balls for their strikers to connect with, inside the box.
In the 33rd minute, the crowd witnessed chaos inside the opposition's 16-yard box when Soosairaj delivered a long throw-in which saw a header off Charles being poorly cleared by defender Kallon. Following his sloppy move, the ball reached Murilo who was tackled by Williams to obstruct his attempt on the goal. Although Chennai City seemed in better control of the proceedings, a firm defensive performance from the visitors meant that the two teams walked off the pitch at the break with the deadlock yet to be broken.
The second half saw an early chance from the hosts as Charles released a shot from long range after Fabien gifted the ball to the Southerners' midfielder. However, his delivery landed safely into the hands of the NEROCA goalkeeper.
In the 78th minute, from the centre of the park, William made a run towards the Chennai City box, going past two challenges in his path, only to lose control of the ball later.
As both outfits failed to finish off their chances, the game ended in a goalless draw. The result meant Chennai now have 9 points in their kitty while NEROCA have 15.
