Rampaging Rafa claims 'La Undécima' at Roland Garros

PARIS: Rafael Nadal beat Austrian seventh seed Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to claim a record-extending 11th French Open title on Sunday.

The Spanish world number one took his Roland Garros win-loss record to a jaw-dropping 86-2 as he captured his 17th Grand Slam title.

Nadal's triumph marks the sixth consecutive Grand Slam won by either him or 20-time major champion Roger Federer.

The muscular Spaniard had won all 10 of his previous Roland Garros finals, and although Thiem was the only man to have beaten him on clay over the past two seasons, the Austrian never threatened the claycourt master on Sunday.

It was sweet revenge for Nadal for his straight sets defeat at the hands of the Austrian at the Madrid Masters. With this victory, the Mallorcan will retain the number one ranking and wrests the top spot in the ATP race to London. Nadal was overcome with emotion as he held the trophy aloft for record eleventh time, and was seen fighting back the tears.
