Nearly 212,000 tickets sold for 2017 Confed Cup in Russia

Up to 212,000 tickets for matches of the 2017 FIFA World Cup in Russia have been sold as of today, the world's governing body of football announced in its statement on Wednesday.

"211,745 FIFA Confederations Cup tickets had been sold via FIFA.com/tickets by the time the first-come, first-served sales phase came to an end at 12:00 CET today (13:00 Moscow time)," the FIFA said in its statement.

"As at previous editions of the FIFA Confederations Cup, the majority of ticket requests have come from the host country, but foreign fans have also shown increased interest, particularly those from Chile who have requested 7,111 tickets so far," according to the statement. "Ticket sales will restart on April 19 when the Last Minute Sales phase kicks off," the statement from FIFA said.

"In addition to these online sales, supporters will then also have the opportunity to purchase tickets at the FIFA Venue Ticketing Centres that will open on the same day in all four FIFA Confederations Cup host cities - Saint Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan and Moscow," the statement added.

Ticket prices for the 2017 Confederations Cup and the 2018 World Cup were announced in Moscow on July 5 after the board meeting of the Russia-2018 Local Organizing Committee (LOC), attended by FIFA officials. The first stage of ticket sales for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia was launched on December 9 last year and closed on January 19. The FIFA announced in January that following the first window of ticket sales for the 2017 Confederations Cup, over 82,400 requests were applied from around the globe adding that Russian fans were on top of the list with 71,266 tickets requested and were followed by their Chilean counterparts with 4,949 requests for tickets.
