Nadal holds top spot in ATP rankings, Djokovic in second

Madrid: Spain's Rafael Nadal maintained the top spot of men's Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world singles rankings released on Monday with 7,660 points.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic climbed one spot up to the second, after claiming the Shanghai Masters title for the fourth time in a row on Sunday, only 215 points away from Nadal's position. Djokovic overtook Switzerland's Roger Federer in the standings, pushing him down to third.

Roger Federer has failed to defend the title in Shanghai after the semi-final loss to Borna Coric and he is now world number 3 for the first time since August 2017, trailing more than 1000 points to Djokovic and looking to finish the season on this position.

Juan Martin del Potro has announced a right patella bone fracture, having to retire against Coric in Shanghai and he is likely to miss the rest of the season. The rest of the top-10 remained unchanged, as Alexander Zverev of Germany stayed at No. 5, followed by Marin Cilic of Croatia.

Kevin Anderson stayed 8th ahead of David Goffin and John Isner and Kei Nishikori is the last contender for the place in London, currently standing 380 points behind the American.

Meanwhile, Australia's Matthew Ebden jumped 11 positions up to the 40th, after reaching the quarterfinals of the Asian tournament.
