Kohli maintains top spot; Shaw, Pant make big gains

Dubai: India captain Virat Kohli remains the number one Test batsmen while Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant have made big gains in the latest ICC rankings following the home series against the West Indies. India completely dominated the visitors, winning both the Test at Rajkot and Hyderabad within three days of play.

Shaw, who led India to victory in the U19 World Cup this year, completed a memorable debut series as he finished the Hyderabad Test in 60th place, a gain of 13 slots after knocks of 70 and 33 not out. Shaw had entered the rankings in 73rd place after a century on debut.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant also continued his upward climb as his knock of 92 saw him gain 23 places to reach 62nd position. The Delhi batsman had started the series in 111th position and would be deriving satisfaction from the rankings gain after missing centuries in successive Tests, also dismissed for 92 in the opening match in Rajkot. On the other hand, India skipper Virat Kohli maintained the top spot in the rankings with 935 points, while Cheteshwar Pujara also remains at the sixth spot.

In the bowlers rankings, pacer Umesh Yadav, who bagged ten wickets in the second Test, gained four slots to be at the 25th position. After his ten-fer at Hyderabad, Umesh became the third India fast bowler to claim a 10-wicket Test haul on home soil.

Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin remain at the fourth and eighth spot respectively in the bowlers' chart. Also, after an impressive 5/56 in India's first innings at Hyderabad, West Indies skipper Jason Holder jumped four places to be at a career-best ninth position among bowlers. Holder's first innings half-century also helped him move three slots up to reach 53rd position.

In the team rankings, India remains static at the first place with 4397 points and is followed by South Africa and Australia at the second and third place respectively.
