JUVENTUS AJAX-ED

With a 2-1 victory, Ajax knocked out heavyweights Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo out of Champions League

Turin: First at Santiago Bernabéu, tonight at Allianz Stadium, Ajax has stunned the world with an exquisite display of football - defeating Ronaldo's Juventus. They had earlier defeated his former club, Real Madrid as well. The Amsterdam-based football club were the underdogs going into the second-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against the Italian champions.

After a few close encounters for Juventus in the yesteryear's Champions League, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin last year was supposed to mean a new dawn for them. He did score in both the legs, but a stunning display of attacking brand of football made the football fraternity stand in awe for the minnows. A bottom corner from the Portuguese star handed an early advantage to Juventus in the 28th minute. But, the young Ajax team was quick to respond with a goal from Van de Beek converted off a Pjanić's corner in the 34th minute.

Right after the half-time Ajax worked some intrinsic football inside Juventus's half. A delightful header from skipper Matthijs de Ligt in the 67th minute left the home fans shell-stunned and was enough to take the underdogs into the semi-finals of a European Championship for the first time since 1997. They will take on the winner of the City-Spurs encounter scheduled later tomorrow night.
