Hume scores to help Kerala blast Mumbai City 1-0

Mumbai: Mumbai City FC will feel hard done by the referee as they went down to Kerala Blasters 0-1 in a 2017-18 ISL game at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.

Iain Hume (23') got a goal to his name in controversial circumstances when he scored off Courage Pekuson's free-kick, hastily taken while the ball was still rolling. The former Leicester City forward even appeared to be slightly off-side when Pekuson took the supposed set-piece.
Both sides lined up in a similar 4-2-3-1 shape with the hosts making one change in the side. Raju Gaikwad was replaced by Davinder Singh, who slotted in on the right side of the defence. As for the visitors, former Manchester United player Dimitar Berbatov was absent from the matchday squad with the Netherlands-born Mark Sifneos featuring in the attack. Siam Hanghal made way for Milan Singh in the defensive midfield.
A quarter of an hour in, a diving Balwant Singh got his head to the cross sent by Sanju Pradhan but the delivery missed the mark by inches as it rolled wide of the target.
However, it was the visiting side in yellow which drew first blood with Iain Hume finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute. The build-up to the controversial goal began with Sifneos being brought down from a Gerson Vieira tackle which gifted a free-kick to the Yellows.
Pekuson took the set-piece quickly while the ball was still in motion and picked out Hume who ran towards the 18-yard-box and sent the ball past Amrinder. Referee Pranjal Banerjee's poor control hurt the hosts as the official overlooked Pekuson rolling the ball further up which should have ideally been called for a re-take. Moreover, Hume appeared to be in an offside position.
