East Bengal look to snap losing streak against Minerva

East Bengal, under Ranjan Chowdhury, will seek to snap their four-match losing streak when they face Minerva Academy FC in their penultimate round match of the I-League at Barasat on Sunday. The former Mohammedan Sporting coach took over the reigns of East Bengal in an unexpected turn of events as a freak fall of Mridul Banerjee on his first day of practice had ruled him out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon on his left foot.

Santosh Trophy-winning Banerjee was appointed coach less than 12 hours after Englishman Trevor Morgan had put his papers following East Bengal's 0-1 defeat to DSK Shivajians that shattered their I-League title hopes. East Bengal, who had beaten the debutants from Punjab 5-0 in the first leg, will now look to get full points in their remaining two matches and finish in top three. "We want to win the remaining matches and finish on a high. The target will be to do well in the Federation Cup. We will like to take the momentum from this two matches," Chowdhury said.
