Agenbag 1st SA woman to officiate in mens first-class game

Johannesburg: Lauren Agenbag of South Africa has created history by becoming the first female umpire to officiate in a men's first-class game in the country.

Agenbag, 23, officiated in the match between Central Gauteng Lions and Boland in the CSA Provincial three-day competition in Johannesburg from Thursday to Saturday last week, reports ICC.

Heaping praise on her, CSA's Acting Director of Cricket Corrie van Zyl said on Tuesday: "Lauren has become a standard-bearer for women's umpiring in South Africa."

"She has shown that there is no limit to what can be achieved with the required dedication and determination to live one's personal dreams.

"I am sure she will inspire others to follow the path she has set," he added.

Earlier this year in February, Agenbag had become the first-ever woman from South Africa to officiate in a T20I, which was played between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Cape Town.
