Sports min commends Hooda govt

Union sports and youth affairs minister, Jitendra Singh has commended the efforts of Haryana government for promoting sports in Haryana, here on Sunday.

Speaking at the two-day conference of sports Ministers and secretaries of the states and union territories, Jitendra Singh said that the Haryana government has constructed 226 Rajiv Gandhi rural sport complexes and 232 rural Sports stadiums.

As per the sports policy of Haryana government, Centre has also decided to construct 60421 Gram Panchayat and 1852 block Panchayat stadiums in 28 States and 4 UTs. Under Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), a sum of Rs 692.72 crore has been provided for this purpose, work for which will start next month. Financial commissioner and principal secretary, sports Haryana, Amit Jha informed the conference that PYKKA is being implemented in Haryana since 2008-09.

Haryana players are participating in various national rural tournaments. In 2011-12 and 2012-13, Haryana players won 33 and 35 gold medals respectively in these tournaments. He added that the state government has constructed sufficient number of rural sports stadiums in the state.

He urged the union sports ministry to provide financial grant to Haryana for providing synthetic hockey turfs and other modern amenities in these stadiums. Jha further added that with the increase of honorarium from Rs. 500/- to Rs. 3000/- by union sports ministry, the sports trainees at the sports centres being run under PYKKA, in 2476 villages and 48 blocks in Haryana will also benefit.
