S’pore court rejects Male airport plea against GMR

The Singapore High Court has dismissed the application filed by Maldives Airports Company seeking vacation of the injunctive order granted in favour of GMR Male International Airport (GMIAL), the Indian infrastructure giant said on Tuesday.

The HC had on 23 July granted an injunction in favour of GMIAL, restraining MACL from taking any step in the Civil Courts of the Maldives preventing GMIAL from adjustment/set-off of the Airport Development Charge and insurance surcharge.

‘On 19 November, the High Court of Singapore has dismissed the application filed by MACL seeking vacation of the injunctive order granted in favor of GMIAL on 23 July and made absolute the injunctive relief granted in favor of GMIAL,’ the GMR said in a statement. GMR Male International Airport is a joint venture company comprising GMR Infrastructure Limited (77 per cent) and Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (23 per cent).  GMR had won the airport contract when government headed by former President Mohamed Nasheed was in place, but the project, the largest single investment in the history of Maldives, began facing problems soon after a regime change in the country earlier this year.
