SP wins Bhatpar Rani seat

Ruling Samajwadi Party on Thursday retained the Bhatpar Rani assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh with the victory of party candidate Ashutosh Upadhyaya in the by-poll.

SP candidate Ashutosh Upadhyaya defeated his nearest rival Subha Kunwar (an Independent candidate) by a margin of 34,102 votes, election commission sources said. Upadhyaya has bagged total 73,100 votes in the by-election at Bhatpar Rani assembly seat that had fell vacant, following the death of the sitting Samajwadi Party member and State Sports and youth welfare minister Kameshwar Upadhaya.

BSP candidate Binda Singh Kushwaha grabbed the third position with 24,700 votes.
